This whole cake obsession thing is bordering on the ridiculous, I really don't even like cake that much. I rarely feel like eating a piece of cake - or anything sweet at all really (I'd rather a cold beer and a bowl of hot chips any day). So, it's odd that I'm overcome with the desire to bake things like this all the time:
(Second version of Hummingbird Cake. I have 4 Hummingbird Cake recipes to try - this one wasn't quite as good as version 1.)
It's cool cause I found me what I now like to call a mutually agreeable cake relationship. I'm the provider and a friend of ours is the eater. It's fab, I get to bake which I love and he gets to eat cake which he loves. Win-win I tell you.
Of course occassionally it all goes pear (or cake) shaped...for even though I'm not a huge fan of cake if there's cake in the fridge
I usually end up eating it.

wow. i don't know hummingbird cake. why is it named that? because it's so sweet and light? and you get fluttery feelings in your tummy?
Hi Bekka, I don't know why it's called Hummingbird cake either!! It has bananas and crushed pineapple in it though and a little bit of spice - nothing like a hummingbird really!
Now we've already had words about you taunting me with hummingbird cake. I request that you cease and desist (or alternatively save me a piece for november! Preferably with sour cream icing...)
Ooh er, I love me some hummingbird cake!
